Felix Afena-Gyan saw a strange red card on Monday night when AS Roma hosted Spezia in Serie A.

The teenager thought he scored a superb third goal for Roma in stoppage time and celebrated, but the goal was ruled out and he was sent off.

Afena-Gyan came off the bench to replace Borja Mayoral in the 64th minute during the 2-0 win for Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

Four minutes after his introduction, Afena-Gyan was booked for a shoulder barge and then picked up another yellow card in stoppage time, after having smashed the ball into the net.

The referee disallowed the goal for handball in the build-up and gave the striker his second yellow card.

Mourinho, obviously not happy with the decision, screamed from the touchline before escorting the player down the tunnel.

Afena-Gyan was making his first appearance since recovering from coronavirus which kept him out of action for two weeks.

The 18-year-old has netted eight times this season, two for the first team and six for the U19 side. Since his brace against Genoa on November 21, he has been training with Mourinho’s team.
