After an eight-year wait, the U.S. men’s national team secured a place in the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday, although the team did not like it.
In the 14th and final match of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers, the United States took a place in Costa Rica’s San Jose, 2-0 win over Costa Rica at the Estadio Nacional.
“I am very proud of this team,” said US star Christian Pulisic. “It’s a bit of a weird feeling right now because I hate to lose so much, but I’m really proud, and I can’t wait to go to the World Cup.”

The top three teams in CONCACAF automatically qualify for the World Cup, where the fourth-placed team will compete in an intercontinental play-off against the Oceania qualifiers.
The final table shows the United States in third place after Canada and Mexico, who qualify. Costa Rica is in fourth place.
This will be Men’s first appearance in the World Cup For the United States since 2014. The United States failed to qualify for the pre-2018 Men’s World Cup, with Concacaf finishing fifth in the World Cup qualifiers.
The 2022 World Cup will be held in Qatar and is scheduled from November 21 to December 18.
