After an eight-year wait, the U.S. men’s national team secured a place in the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday, although the team did not like it.

In the 14th and final match of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers, the United States took a place in Costa Rica’s San Jose, 2-0 win over Costa Rica at the Estadio Nacional.

“I am very proud of this team,” said US star Christian Pulisic. “It’s a bit of a weird feeling right now because I hate to lose so much, but I’m really proud, and I can’t wait to go to the World Cup.”

The top three teams in CONCACAF automatically qualify for the World Cup, where the fourth-placed team will compete in an intercontinental play-off against the Oceania qualifiers.
