Reigning artiste of the year, Diana Hamilton, adds her voice to the controversial E-levy conversation that has been the talk of the country since its mention by the government.

Speaking in an interview on Ghana’s number one morning show, TV3 New Day on Wednesday February 9 she stated that the views of Ghanaians are important in making national decisions like the E-Levy and hence, it is important to take the views of citizens into consideration.

“With the E-levy I want the Ghanaian to win in this. What will help the Ghanaian is what I want. The Ghanaian should be at the center of everything they are doing. Ghanaians have to be the center of it. Can we make the Ghanaian benefit and win?” she said.

Other industry players such as Kwaw Kese, Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Lydia Forson and others have aired their opinions on the new tax measure.

It can be recalled that rapper Kwaw Kese stated that the levy is not important and is not practiced anywhere.

He added that the mode of collection and its consistent imposition from government on Ghanaians is suspicious.

It can also be recounted that multiple award-winning rapper Sarkodie also made comments on twitter concerning the tax measure after a social media user questioned him on his views.

According to him, Ghanaians are not supporting the levy because they do not get to enjoy benefits that come along with paying taxes unlike their counterparts in Western countries.

The social media user asked in a tweet: “@Sarkodie Please I want to know what you think about the E-Levy, you have been quiet on it your paddies are speaking their minds.”

Replying, the rapper said: “I pay a lot of taxes outside and I don’t complain because I’m using avenues, they made available to make money (it’s only right) it’s not the same here and that’s why we complain not because the “E Levy” is bad. When you broke, a harmless “good morning “can sound like a tease.”

Shatta Wale had also said the leaders in the country are being insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians with the introduction of the new tax measure.

In a viral video online, the “My Level” hitmaker said “right now you people make the thing look like, if you get the opportunity and get your chance, and come into power you can take any decision you want. Think about human beings.”

Many other Ghanaians have aired their views on the new tax measure which has led to conversations that government should reconsider the decision of implementing it in the country.
