Ghanaians urged to guard against the peace of the country

Rev Christopher Nyarko Andam, Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Peace Council, has stressed the need for Ghanaians to guard against the peace in the country.

He said peace was essential in the country’s transformation agenda and there was the need for everybody to ensure that nothing disturbed the peace of the country.

Rev Andam made the call at a stakeholders’ forum to mark this year’s World Peace Day in Kumasi.
It was attended by religious and political leaders, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Civil Society organizations and other key stakeholders in the peace building process.

Rev Andam said the 2020 elections posed the greatest test for the country in its peace and sustainability.

It was therefore important for all key players in the election game to contribute their quota to ensure that there was peace before, during and after the elections.

They should desist from utterances that put fear and anxiety into the people.

Mr Simon Osei Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, stressed the need for Ghanaians to choose leaders who were committed to transform the country and uplift the people from poverty and deprivation.

They should not give in to the demands of politicians whose habit and actions could plunge the country into chaos.

Mr. Wilson Rapheal Arthur, Ashanti Regional Director of NCCE pointed out that Ghana was a shining example when it came to peace and stability.

It was important for every citizen to remain committed to Ghana’s quest to sustain its well- earned credentials of holding successful, inclusive, credible and peaceful election.

He said the campaign for peace would include; education of the people on the Vigilantism and other Related Offences Laws, to help the youth to understand and appreciate its content.
