Former Asante Kotoko chief Kojo Bonsu believes the time is right for Black Stars captain Andre Ayew to end his international career.
The Al Sadd star recently set the record for most appearances for the Black Stars and is currently Ghana’s second-highest scorer at the World Cup with three goals.
However, there have been calls for the 32-year-old to leave the Black Stars after failing to impress during Ghana’s campaign in Qatar.
The former Olympique Marseille forward failed to convert a penalty in Ghana’s final group game, resulting in a loss to Uruguay and an early exit from the tournament.
While the former mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly believes Andre Ayew has been one of Ghana’s most important players over the years, he believes it will be a wise decision for the 32-year-old to announce his retirement.
“Dede Ayew has really done well for the country looking at his achievements for the country since he joined the National Team.
“But honestly, he is weak [not in the best shape] now so the country should give him a good testimonial or farewell game to retire him and avoid accusing him for the penalty miss. Should we continue with this attack, it will affect the next generation.

“We have a good team, we should calm down and avoid the unnecessary insults we rain on them,” he told Akoma FM.
Andre Ayew has captained the Black Stars to three major tournaments since he was handed the armband in 2019.
The former Swansea City man also led the Black Satellites to their first FIFA U-20 World Cup title in 2009. He has played 113 matches and is currently Ghana’s top scorer in AFCON history with 10 goals.
