Joseph Paul Amoah qualified for the men’s 200m semi-finals at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham after winning his heat on Thursday.

Amoah won heat 5 in 20.58 seconds, ensuring automatic progression to the next round. He is aiming to make the final and win his first Commonwealth medal.

Meanwhile, his compatriot Abdul Rasheed Saminu ran a personal best of 21.32 seconds but did not make the 200m semi-finals.

Saminu came third in heat 2.

Abigail Kwarteng advanced to the High Jump final after clearing 1.81m. Despite failing to clear the automatic qualifying height of 1.90s, Kwarteng was the best performer in women’s qualifying B and advanced to the final.

Rose Yeboah also earned a place in the High Jump final on her first attempt, clearing 1.81m. She missed out on the automatic qualifying mark of 1.90s but advanced as one of the top 12 performers.

Team Ghana have so far won two medals, both in boxing.
