Messi fit to start

Inter Miami boss Gerardo Martino has confirmed Lionel Messi is likely to start Tuesday’s Leagues Cup clash against Atlanta United.

Following Messi’s match-winning cameo off the bench on Friday night, his Argentine compatriot Martino said: “It is very likely that both Messi and Busi [Sergio Busquets] will play longer, even from the beginning.

“Everything will depend on how they feel. It’s just their second game.”

Becks brilliance

Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber has praised David Beckham for his work bringing Lionel Messi to Inter Miami.

On Miami’s English co-owner, Garber said: “People don’t understand how smart David Beckham is, how thoughtful he is and how hard working he is.

“David is a special guy. He had a laser focus from the very beginning. Very happy for him and really proud of him.”

Messi has arrived

Lionel Messi produced some trademark magic on his Inter Miami debut.

The Argentine World Cup winner came off the bench in the 54th minute against Mexican side Cruz Azul in the Leagues Cup on Friday.

And deep into stoppage time, the 36-year-old scored a sensational free-kick to seal a 2-1 victory for his new club and spark scenes of pandemonium at the DRV PNK Stadium.

Busquets feeling Serge of pressure

Sergio Busquets says he is feeling a different kind of pressure in the US compared to when he played in Europe.

The Spanish maestro, who has joined Inter Miami alongside Lionel Messi, said: “It is very different from the pressure and what they can ask of you in Spain and in Europe in general.

“It is more speculative in that it does not depend so much on whether you win or lose but at the end it is the path that takes you there and what you accomplish during that time.”
