MOFA receives supports for 37th National Farmers Day celebrations

Ten organisations on Wednesday presented sponsorship packages worth more than one–million Ghana cedis towards the 37th National Farmers’ Day celebration scheduled for Cape Coast in the Central Region on December 3, this year.

The sponsorship packages included cheques, assorted products and equipment.

Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), the lead sponsor presented cheque for GHC600,000, Mechanical Lloyd Company Limited donated units of harrows worth GHC100,000 cedis, Bon Agro, presented GHC60,000 worth of agro chemicals, New Okaff Industries Limited presented cheque for GHC20,000 and other products.

Wynca Sunshine Agricultural Products and Trading Company Ghana Limited presented products worth GHC60, 000, Louis Dreyfus Company presented cheque for GHC5, 000 together with weedicides and Pesticides, Yara Ghana presented cheque for GHC25, 000, Sidalco Limited presented products worth GHC37, 950, Kingdom Exim Ghana Limited GHC25, 000, and Agricultural Manufacturing Group presented cheque for GHC20, 000.

Mr. Yaw Frempong Addo, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture and Chairman, National Farmers Day Planning Committee, thanked the donors for the gesture.

Mr. Addo said Government alone could not honour farmers and expressed gratitude to the donors for the commitment to the sector despite the economic impact of COVID-19.

Mr. Kwame Asiedu Attrams, General Manager in charge of Agribusiness, ADB, said the cheque constituted a fraction of what the Bank had been offering to the nation’s “gallant” farmers.

He said the Bank would also be contributing towards workshops and other engagements of farmers during the celebration.

This year’s theme is: “Planting for food and Jobs- Consolidating Food systems in Ghana.”
