The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has delivered virtual battlespace (VBS) software to the Belgian Directorate General Material Resources.
The handover builds on a contract awarded to Bohemia Interactive Solutions to integrate the Spike LR Anti-Tank Guided Missile’s visual representation and associated features into the VBS.
The delivery followed the software’s acceptance phase conducted by the company and NSPA at the Belgian Army Simulation Center.
“The purpose of the project was to integrate a realistic simulation of the SPIKE weapon system into the VBS software,” NSPA Air and Land Combat Systems Program Manager Robert Elvish explained.
“This will allow the SPIKE operators to train more effectively on tactical scenarios developed by the instructors.”
The Virtual Battlespace
The VBS provides a realistic environment for virtual tactical training and multi-domain mission rehearsals.
According to Bohemia, the latest iteration of the software allows users to create their preferred field based on various terrain edits, scenario fields, mission plans, and after-action reviews.
Each battlespace produced through the software uses a specific location from a virtual Earth that can be modified in real-time with AI assistance, full human control, or a combination.
Replays from the virtual training are provided in 2D and 3D from different perspectives.

The software can also be incorporated with a third-party management tool for analyzing performance metrics during rehearsals.
UK Virtual Military Training
Earlier this year, Bohemia received a 7.2-million-pound contract ($8.7 million) to provide its VSB4 and VSB Blue IG software to the UK Ministry of Defence.
Under the agreement, the products will serve as the UK military’s new Defence Virtual Simulation 2 solution until 2027.
It follows a 2016 contract for a previous version of the VBS for the British armed forces.
