Hajia Zuweira Ibrahimah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Salaga South Constituency, has offered GH72, 102 in financial aid to 69 tertiary students in their pursuit of higher education.
The 69 beneficiaries comprised of 22 females and 47 males pursuing various courses in different public universities and colleges.
Addressing the beneficiaries after a short presentation, Hajia Zuweira noted that the gesture was to ease the burden on the parents of the beneficiary students.
She revealed, provision of the needed support to students to be able to acquire tertiary education so as to prepare them to take up future job opportunities has been a priority area for her as MP for the constituency.
“I want to challenged you the beneficiary students especially the ladies to strive to excel in your courses of study in your respective educational institutions to enable you meet the demands of the job market”
She advised them to stay away from peers and acts that will end their future dreams.
Poor performance
Hajia Zuweira lamented the poor performance of basic and senior high schools in the Constituency.
She revealed, East Gonja Municipality placed last in the GES ranking of schools performance for the 2020/2021 academic year.
“Its unfortunate that out of the schools in the region, East Gonja placed last with only 1percent of students passing in both the BECE and WASSCE exams”
E-LEVY
Commenting on the newly introduced controversial Electronic Transaction Levy (E-LEVY) by the government, the Salaga South lawmaker urged the students to join the many voices calling for it to be dropped.

She indicated, as an MP, she will oppose any move by government that will worsen the plight of her constituents.
“The E-levy is a bad tax and we will continue to reject it until the government heads to the plight of the poor Ghanaian.”
She however stated that the opposition MPs are ready to support government if it proposes alternative means of raising revenue for the developmental fortunes of the country.
Appreciation
A beneficiary, Wahab Yakubu thanked the MP for the assistance describing it as a huge relief to parents in footing their academic user fees.
