One month before President Joe Biden’s trip to Saudi Arabia, the District of Columbia is renaming the roadway in front of the Saudi embassy Jamal Khashoggi Way, as a slap in the face to Riyadh for its role in the killing of the dissident Saudi activist and writer in 2018.
A Jamal Khashoggi Way sign was unveiled in front of the embassy’s main entrance with members of the D.C. Council in attendance. “You have to honor his name whenever you issue directions for people to come to your embassy,” Nihad Awad, Executive Director of the Council on American–Islamic Relations, said. “You’ll be haunted by his name forever.”
