The Tema High Court has adjourned the ruling on the bail application of #FixTheCountry’s lead convener, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, to Wednesday, March 16.

Lead counsel of the accused, Akoto Ampaw, argued that the post by his client on social media was a conditional phrase which he shared as a viewpoint with respect to coups in the subregion.

He noted that the post did not constitute a crime under Ghana’s laws.

Lawyer Akoto Ampaw added that Mr. Barker-Vormawor is not a flight risk as alleged by the Attorney-General since his passport is with the prosecution.

But Senior State Attorney Hilda Craig told the court that the accused’s social media post showed a statement of intent, which he followed through on by coming to Ghana.

She noted that the #FixTheCountry convenor does not have a fixed abode in the country.

She also told the court that Barker-Vormawor’s “abusive” attitude while in custody was evidence that when granted bail, he would not assist with investigations.

Commenting on having the accused’s passport in possession, the Senior State Attorney told the court that many people traveled outside the country using unapproved routes, and hence the accused was still a flight risk.

Presiding judge Daniel Mensah consequently adjourned the ruling on the application after hearing both parties.
