Rosemargaret Esubonteng, President of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors, has commended the ”Young in Surveying” project launched by the Stephen Djaba Foundation to inculcate the knowledge of map-making and surveying in children.
The project, launched in 2022, was to help students to understand and appreciate the concept of map-making , geography and surveying, all aimed at restoring to glory the surveying profession in Ghana.
She said although the map-making and surveying were included in the Senior High School (SHS) syllabus, the advocacy by Stephen Djaba Foundation, in incorporating the subject in the Ghana Education Service, New Academic syllabus for basic schools could ignite their interest in surveying.
She added that it would also help them undertake programmes in surveying at a higher education level and become professional surveyors.

Mr Esubonteng, who said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency disclosed that the Krobo area in the Eastern Region, has been a key stakeholder in the development and grooming of Surveyors who had contributed significantly to the growth of the profession.
” It is on the premise of this that when the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS), was celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2019, the Krobo area was the focal point for the establishment of a Meridian Monument at Okwuenya – Somanya,” The President of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors said.
She said the monument would serve not only as a tourist attraction but also initiate the understanding of basic surveying and how we establish points on the earth surface.
She assured the Stephen Djaba Foundation of the Institution’s support in making available the services of its members for campaigns in schools and surveying equipment to be used in teaching the children.
In the same development the Peace Palm Oil Processing Group, at Akim Asene has hailed the ” Young in Surveying ” project, considering the benefits of surveying in their occupation and livelihood.
