Transfer Talk: Dumfries price was disclosed to United and Chelsea

Manchester United and Chelsea have been told what they must pay to land Inter Milan and Netherlands right-back Denzel Dumfries.

Dumfries, 26, is currently excelling at an international tournament for the second year running, having shone brightly for the Oranje during last summer’s delayed Euro 2020 finals.

In Qatar, he has been one of Louis van Gaal’s most consistent performers and was inspired in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat of the USA in the last 16, notching a goal and two assists.

That has only increased Premier League interest further, with Arsenal and Tottenham also thought to be monitoring his availability closely.

It is the Blues and Red Devils who lead the chasing pack, though — and reports in Italy suggest a sale is on the cards if Inter’s valuation is met.

Calciomercato claim that an offer of £43 million with £8.6m in add-ons would be nigh-on impossible for the Nerazzurri to turn down, be it in January or next summer.

Though Dumfries himself is in no rush to depart Italy, he is said to be relishing the prospect of playing in England in the near future.

A deal looks more likely to be struck at the end of the campaign but due to Inter’s poor financial position, they would be in no position to turn down big money next month.

It will therefore come down to how much both United and Chelsea wish to land their man.

Dumfries and his Dutch colleagues take on Argentina in the World Cup quarterfinals on Friday evening.
